Barbie

I wonder if looking at the iconic doll’s face so large-scale and close-up could make her seem more real, almost alive. (A different take, perhaps, on seeing her represented by a famous actress on a movie screen?) As viewers, can we find ourselves trying to read Barbie’s “mind”? Could we accept her as one of us? More broadly, where do we draw the line between artificial and real? That distinction grows more and more blurry as our world merges more and more with that of artificial intelligence. And the big question becomes whether this merchandise is a thing of the past or a face from the future of humanity? Walking that thin line between real and unreal, whatever that means, is a perpetual theme in my work.
