In Hole in the Wall, Tom turns the night into a wall of darkness, almost solid, with a single opening of warmth and color. The tipi catches the glow of nearby firelight, each plane holding a different wash of color as it turns away from the black.
Tom is drawn to stripping a scene down until only what matters remains, and here he takes that instinct even deeper. There is no landscape to wander through, no painted symbols to decipher. Only the shape, light, and color glowing against the dark.
The more that disappears, the more simplicity becomes the whole story.
