Five tipis, glowing with the warm light of evening fires, dominate this painting. The title, Inthe Shadow of the Sixth, refers to the unseen sixth tipi—represented only by its shadow. By including this sixth lodge, Gilleon breaks the traditional compositional rule of using even numbers.
